Description
The project concerns the construction of a New Building Complex in which 4 associations for people with disabilities (A.M.E.A.) will be relocated. These are the Associations "ΑΜΥΜΩΝΗ", "ΕΡΜΗΣ", "ΝΙΚΗ", and "ΣΑμΣΚΠ". The total area of the plot is 7,410 m2 and the total building size is 7,737.9 sq.m.
The complex consists of 4 independent Wings, 2, 3, and 4 levels, constructed with reinforced concrete, which are interconnected via a central circulation axis that provides access to all levels, through a ramp with a maximum slope of 5%, a pedestrian bridge, three elevators, and two stairwells located at its ends. The circulation areas are distinct and are marked with green color and a vertical cutout play of aluminum on the facade. The building facades are clad with thermal insulation of white plaster, in which protruding aluminum frames appear in yellow and blue.
The design of the complex ensures the independent operation and access of each Association while simultaneously allowing shared use of facilities intended for all 4 Associations, such as the indoor pool and the Multipurpose/Recreation Hall. Other uses of the buildings include classrooms, workshops, therapy rooms, doctors' offices, teachers' offices, administrative staff rooms, dining rooms, professional kitchens, and restrooms for the disabled. All spaces were constructed and contain equipment according to the requirements of "Designing for All" to create a friendly, accessible, and safe environment for all user categories.
A significant functional feature of the project is the surrounding area, where free-form spaces are created between the buildings, containing green areas, educational gardens, movement zones with cast mosaic flooring, built seating areas, and a playground with rubber flooring.
Aiming for optimal energy performance, the Building Complex achieves Energy Efficiency A+ and is also equipped with all modern mechanical and electrical installations (KNX, BMS, underfloor heating, air conditioning/ventilation, Photovoltaic panels).
Following sustainability principles, the Project aims for LEED certification for Building Design & Construction, New Construction, and Major Renovation version 4/4.1 (LEED NC v4/4.1) at the Gold level, from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Furthermore, the entire construction phase participated in an environmental monitoring program, with 24-hour noise, dust, and vibration measurements, aiming for environmental protection, public benefit, and full compliance with applicable provisions and regulations.
Lastly, the Project has been distinguished at the Health & Safety Awards '23, Category Building, Construction & Property Activities, for the Integration of modern methodologies in the preparation of HSE documentation.
